Employee retention gets talked about a lot. Usually in contention are salaries and flexible working.

But when we speak to internal comms leads, they say staff leave because they feel disconnected or overlooked. (According to a recent CIPD report, 41% of new hires leave within the first 12 weeks.)

Live event video plays a much bigger role than most companies realise!

Business events like town halls or staff updates are often the moments where culture is most visible. They’re where leaders share direction, where teams celebrate wins and actually, employees make snap decisions about where they work.

However, if you weren’t in the room - and remote participation wasn’t offered - you missed it. And even if you were, how much did you remember a week after?

Capturing those events on video changes that dynamic completely.

Getting to grips with inclusion.

In hybrid and remote environments, it’s incredibly easy for people to feel like they’re on the outside looking in.

A live event might bring energy and connection for those physically present, but without video, that experience doesn’t travel.

When events are filmed well and shared thoughtfully, they become something everyone can access. We recently filmed a live event here in Huddersfield for Wilson’s Republic, and it really captured the atmosphere of a full active day for those who couldn’t make it.

Those who could watch the video after, when it was shared on social media, could experience the tone, reactions, atmosphere…

And with employees in a work event, that sense of being included has a crucial impact on how they connect to the business.

Clear communication.

One of the most common frustrations we hear is that staff don’t know what’s going on, with no future planning evident.

Leaders might feel they’ve communicated clearly during a live session, but messages can easily get diluted as they’re passed along informally.

Video creates a single, consistent source of truth. Employees can revisit key moments, hear directly from leadership and absorb information at their own pace. That reduces ambiguity, and when people feel informed, they’re far more likely to stay engaged.

Recognise and remember.

Live events are often about celebrating milestones or highlighting great team work.

But without video, those moments are limited to a specific time and place. When captured and shared, they take on a longer life.

Recognition becomes visible across the organisation, not just to those in the room. It reinforces a culture where contributions are noticed and valued. People want to feel that what they do matters, and video helps make that visible in a way that scales.

Think of events not as isolated moments, but content opportunities. A single event can generate so much material that lasts way longer than the event.

Share your short clips on socials and repurpose parts for training or recruitment videos. Instead of communication being a one-off effort, it becomes something ongoing and consistent. That continuity helps employees feel on board, rather than constantly trying to catch up.

A library of content.

Many live events include insight, updates or experts speaking.

Without video, that knowledge is easily lost. With it, you start to build a library of content that employees can return to.

For new starters, this is particularly valuable. It gives them a way to quickly understand the company’s direction and priorities without relying solely on a massive brochure or second-hand explanations.

When people feel like they’re learning and empowered, they’re far more likely to see a future within the organisation.

Of course, none of this works if the video itself feels like an afterthought. Poor quality or unclear purpose can undermine your whole effort.

Employees are used to high-quality content in their everyday lives, and internal communications are no exception. The goal isn’t to overproduce everything. Just think about what you’re capturing, why it matters and how to get the most out of it.

What’s interesting is that many companies are already investing heavily in live events.  Video simply ensures that the value of those moments doesn’t disappear as soon as the event ends.

Instead, it extends their reach and impact in a way that directly supports how people feel about working at the company.

That's a wrap.

And that’s really what retention comes down to. Not just whether people are satisfied, but whether they feel connected, informed, recognised, and part of something meaningful. Live event video, when used well, touches all of those areas.

Make moments work harder for the people who matter most.

And if you are interested in creating broadcasts that connect multiple sites, speakers and every viewer, we can help with that too!
